The ethos behind Okapi is to produce luxurious, artisanal accessories handmade entirely in Africa, creating job opportunities and growth while striving for exceptional quality and an understated, timeless appeal.
The core collection was named after three African goddesses. The bags’ designs are inspired by the unique beauty of Africa and are classic and timeless. Each artisanal piece is designed to grow with its owner in meaning and character over time.
Every element of an Okapi product is entirely traceable, sustainable and ethically sourced. Each bag is made to the highest standards of quality by skilled African artisans using African sourced materials.
The signature design element of an Okapi bag, a Springbok horn, is sustainably and ethically sourced from farmers in the Karoo region of South Africa. The preparation of horns for Okapi has created new employment opportunities.
Handmade hardware is produced in Cape Town, South Africa. Each individual link is handmade and bespoke fittings for each uniquely shaped Springbok horn must be created.
